THE BLUE ZONES

For more than two decades, photographer and filmmaker David McLain has traveled the world alongside bestselling author Dan Buettner, documenting the remarkable communities known as the Blue Zones—places where people routinely live vibrant, healthy lives well beyond 100.

From the mountains of Sardinia to the islands of Okinawa, McLain combines breathtaking photography, personal stories and scientific insight to explore a fascinating question:

What can the world’s longest-lived people teach us about living better?

Part of Blackhawk Museum’s 2026 Changemaker Speaker Series, featuring four National Geographic explorers and photographers this fall.
