Time:
9:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Location:
Orinda Community Center
28 Orinda Way,

The multicultural and internationally renowned Bay Area Storytelling Festival brings the magic of storytelling to the Bay Area at the Orinda Community Center.

Jointly sponsored by Bay-Area-based arts organizations Storytelling Association of California and Six Feet Apart Productions, the Festival is both in person, as well as being streamed virtually.

The West Coast’s oldest storytelling festival, with a history of over 30 years, the 2023 celebration features four award-winning, internationally celebrated professional storytellers. Maine-based Antonio Rocha, Alaska-based Ingrid Nixon along with the Bay Area’s Tim Ereneta and Kirk Waller will headline the Festival. Members of the Asian American Storytellers in Action will also be featured.

Starting at 9:00 am, the full-day festival offers three storytelling concerts, joint and solo shows, a workshop, a showcase of local youth tellers, and an open mic story swap.

Festival committee member, and Chair of the Festival for 30 years, Linda Yemoto, says, “I am so excited to be part of the team bringing back the Bay Area Storytelling Festival. It was so popular last year and people enjoyed the community and camaraderie of in-person storytelling.”

The Storytelling Association of California (SAC), a non-profit, is co-sponsoring the Festival and actively looking to partner with story-minded organizations and community members to support this Bay Area tradition. As Sara Armstrong, SAC Chair, says, “There are lots of opportunities for sponsors at this event, starting at only $75, with many benefits, such as advertising on our publicity materials, complimentary tickets, swag, shout-outs, and more!”

Anyone interested in joining the Festival’s rich history and exciting future should email bayareastoryfest@gmail.com.

Online storytelling production company, Six Feet Apart Productions (SFAP), is handling the online portion of the Festival, utilizing their skill and experience of producing over 70 virtual shows and festivals. Says founder and co-producer, Claire Hennessy, “We are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful Festival and delighted to be able to bring our expertise of the virtual world. All performances will be live-streamed or recorded for later viewing.”

SFAP founder and co-producer, Regina Stoops, says, “Stories build community and connection. Although the virtual world has opened many doors and widened our network of storytellers, there is nothing so wonderful as being in the same room with other people.”

he Orinda Community Center is an easy walk from BART, and conveniently located just off Highway 24.

The Festival will follow the Contra Costa County guidelines regarding Covid-19 safety and precautions.
