A host in a linen shirt welcomed us like we were old friends, which was funny because I didn\u2019t know a soul. The woman next to me said she joined the A-List \u201cto meet interesting people.\u201d \u201cMission accomplished,\u201d I told her. She didn\u2019t disagree.<\/p>\n<p>The wine got bolder with every pour\u2014or maybe we did. By the time the truffles landed, we were swapping numbers like middle-schoolers at summer camp.
